Oscar Nominated Movies In Hindi Movie Industry

Bollywood and Hindi film industry are the same, where thousands of Hindi films are produced every year. In India, Hindi movie industry produces the maximum number of movies. Some well known Hindi films with its rich content have made its presence felt in the international arena by getting selected in the Academy Award for the category of Best Foreign Language Film.


 


One can not forget Mother India due to its rich content. Aurat, a Mehboob Khan film made in 1940 was made again into this well known movie. Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt portrayed the important characters in the film, which gave a clear picture of the old India. The main character in this movie is a poor village woman with high moral values and a strong will power. Even then she murders her son, at last, in order to fulfill her promise given to the landlord. The film was selected as one of the 5 Best Foreign Language films in Oscars in the year 1958.

Mother India was India's first official entry into Oscars, which depicted India after the independence struggle.

 


The international presence of Hindi movies was felt for the second time with the film Salaam Bombay!. This film was produced in 1988 and showed an in-depth story of Mumbai's (then Bombay) street children. The film was honored with many national and international awards. Montreal World Film Festival, National Film Award for Best Feature Film and the Golden Camera Award - Cannes Film Festival are some of the acclaimed awards given to Salaam Bombay!, by Mira Nair.


 


India's third entry in the Academy Awards was through Lagaan, featuring one of the popular Hindi film actors, Amir Khan. The rule of British Government in India, in the Victorian age was the theme for this film, released in 2001. Lagaan is the story of unity of a village in India, which stands up to raise their voice against the taxation imposed by the British rulers. The film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, within an investment of 250 million rupees also had many British actors Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker within a huge budget (250 million rupees), this movie had some English movie actors too.


 


The 4th film to be listed in the Best Foreign Language Film category was Water by Deepa Mehta, who was from India. The social set up prevailed in India (in 1938) was depicted in this movie. Starring some popular actors like Liza Ray, Raghubir Yadav, Vinay Pathak and John Abraham, this film evoked public interest.


 


Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's film Rang De Basanti portrayed a lot of young college students and through them the modern India. The film shows the change of inactive people to active revolutionaries, who try to bring about change in the corrupt political system. Youth of India got influenced by this film, who wanted the system to change. Among a lot of well known Hindi movies, this film was chosen to represent India internationally in the Academy Awards.
